Seguin ISD superintendent gets five-year contract extension

(Seguin) — The Seguin ISD Board of Directors has invited the district’s top administrator to stay for five years. The school board on Thursday night approved a five-year contract extension for superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez

After meeting behind closed doors for three hours, the board unanimously approved not only his contract extension until 2027, but also a 4% salary increase.

Board Chair Cinde Jimenez says the district is proud of Dr. Gutierrez and all that he was able to accomplish during those difficult years.

“The five years we are giving him will give him 10 years under his belt with ISD Seguin and since he joined we have seen remarkable changes and we continue to see a lot of growth even despite the setback of COVID. Here we are a few years later and still feeling the effects of COVID, but we see many of our schools improving and we have many new plans for our seco.high schools, especially with our college revamp and we would really like to see that come to fruition under his leadership,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez says the district is proud of the team and looks forward to supporting them as much as possible.

The four percent salary increase represents an additional $9,200. This brings his total salary to around $240,000 per year. District officials say the four percent increase parallels what has been provided to all administrators this coming school year.

Dr. Gutierrez first took office in 2017.
