Liverpool appear to have given up all hope of bringing in the youngster this summer. They are keen to play the long game and are ready to strike a deal that will see Bellingham move to Anfield in the summer of 2023. Getting the proposal down the line will give the Merseysiders their man while allowing Dortmund to keep him for another. season.

Such a decision is not unprecedented, especially for Liverpool. The Reds have agreed a deal to bring in Naby Keita from RB Leipzig a year in advance, allowing them to focus their attention elsewhere and prevent this from becoming a saga. Repeating the same to land Bellingham would be a bigger deal and could pay huge dividends down the line.

The 19-year-old’s contract at Dortmund runs until 2025, giving the German giants enough breathing space in the negotiations. They are ready to raise Bellingham’s salary and bring his younger brother, Jobe, behind the scenes at the club to convince him to stay put. It remains to be seen if all this will be for nothing.

Whether it’s this summer or next, signing Bellingham is a huge deal for Liverpool. This will give Klopp his first play in what could be a midfield rebuild of monumental proportions. The Merseyside red half certainly has a love affair with the Beatles, and it may only be a matter of time before the Kop shouts “Hey Jude” at the top of their voices.
