London (AFP) – Joao Cancelo has signed a two-year contract extension keeping him at Manchester City until 2027, the Premier League leaders announced on Tuesday.
The Portugal international full-back has established himself as a key player in Pep Guardiola’s side since joining from Juventus in 2019, playing 106 games and winning three major trophies.
“Manchester City are a fantastic club so I’m incredibly happy to have signed this new deal,” said the 27-year-old.
“City’s players have everything they need to reach their full potential, with incredible facilities, world-class team-mates and an incredible manager pushing us every day.
“There is no better place to play football and it is a pleasure to work here. I have so much I want to achieve before the end of my career, and Manchester City gives me the best chance to achieve my ambitions.”
City director of football Txiki Begiristain said: “Joao is the ultimate professional. He loves football and applies himself every day with the aim of becoming better.”
He added: “He’s so versatile. Whether he’s playing at right-back, left-back or in midfield, he operates at the same high level. He’s a dream for a manager.
“I’m really happy he’s signed and I can’t wait to see him develop in the years to come.”
