Education Sector – Gender Action Plan (GAP) 2021 – Bangladesh
Cox’s Bazar Education Sector and partners continue their commitment to build the resilience of targeted beneficiaries both in host and Rohingya communities and to try to reach every child to help them continue their education at home and in guarantee access to quality education. Considering that gender sensitive issues in education arise due to the COVID -19 pandemic, this has resulted in the closure of learning institutions; and the situation is complicated with protection needs that require a multisectoral approach. In the Education Sector’s Joint Response Plan 2021, the Education Sector committed to focus on inclusive education and gender: all activities implemented under this strategy must be ” Directly address gender discrimination and promote gender equality to ensure that no harm is done to children.
The objective of the Gender Action Plan:
• Is to agree on gender-focused activities and indicators to measure the progress of the activity with all partners in the sector.
• Capacity building of education sector partners to address gender dimensions, reporting in a gender sensitive manner.
• Harmonized, targeted and coordinated support from GiHA to address the gender dimensions of the educational response, including the COVID-19 response at Cox Bazar.
How to ensure a gender sensitive education program?
To examine how different segments of the population are affected, ensure that any response must be based on gender needs and ensure that human rights are respected. The education sector will ensure that gender sensitivity is taken into account by promoting gender mainstreaming.
• Gender parity
• Data-based barrier analysis and evidence-based and context-based interventions
• Collection of data disaggregated by sex, age, disability (SADDD) and
• Target the most marginalized
• Ensure the participation and empowerment of women
• Monitoring and reporting mechanism
• Capacity building on gender issues / training or workshop on gender mainstreaming
• Sensitization of the community on the gender dimension, the importance of girls’ education etc.
• Information sharing / mapping of good practice practices, knowledge sharing through daytime observation, learning circle and story sharing.
• Assessment of education needs against gender dynamics and use of results in planning for the next year.
