Dimension-Polyant Introduces Sustainable X-Pac Fabrics – Sourcing Journal
As part of its commitment to carbon neutrality, Dimension-Polyant, a manufacturer of X-Pac waterproof laminates developed for packs and bags, has created a cleenTEC seal to help identify and guarantee that X-Pac fabrics have been made with recycled, bio-based or responsibly sourced materials, and through responsible manufacturing processes and climate-neutral production facilities.
Together with ClimatePartner, Dimension-Polyant calculates the total environmental impact of each cleenTEC fabric and funds initiatives that rid the oceans of plastic and invest in sustainable wind developments to offset its carbon footprint.
“We wanted to create a seal that would help brands better identify and understand our carbon neutral fabrics from responsible sources, that we are more than just a supplier of another recycled fabric,” said Kenneth Madsen, President of Dimension. -Polyant.
Dimension-Polyant’s portfolio of cleenTEC certified fabrics includes its VX21, which is now 100% carbon neutral, as well as its new RX and X11 fabrics which it will showcase at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market being held in Denver June 9-11. .
X-Pac RX is a collection of monopolymer fabrics made with 100% post-consumer recycled polyester outer fabric and X-PLY backing. Recycled polyester fiber is made from used PET bottles sourced from the USA. A lighter weight polyester film backing provides a sleek, technical look.
For a more natural aesthetic, Dimension-Polyant recently developed the X-Pac X11, which is made with organic cotton duck-face fabric, black recycled polyester X-PLY backing and a glossy polyester film backing.
X-Pac’s strongest and most durable laminate, UVX40, is now made with bio-based Dyneema fibers. All of the company’s X-PLY fiber reinforcements are now made with domestically sourced post-consumer recycled polyester.
“Many of our brand partners have expressed how much they appreciate all that is happening in responsibly sourcing our raw materials to reduce our carbon footprint and lead the industry in the development of climate neutral fabrics,” said Taylor North, technical fabrics manager at Dimension-Polyant. “The fact that our RX line is sourced entirely from the East Coast of the United States is another aspect that our customers understand and appreciate. We are proud to have achieved the ClimatePartner ‘Cradle to Customer Plus End of Life’ certificate for our cleenTEC sealing fabrics, which we believe are the first and only climate-neutral laminate designed for packs.
Dimension-Polyant is one of the largest sailcloth manufacturers in the world. Its production facilities are located in Putnam, Connecticut and Kempen, Germany. Dimension-Polyant is owned by Sioen Industries, Belgium.
